Pressure Injury
A Pressure Injury is a localized damage to the skin and underlying tissue, usually over a bony prominence, caused by prolonged pressure. It often occurs in individuals with limited mobility, such as those in hospitals or nursing homes. The injury can range from mild redness to severe wounds that may expose muscle or bone.
These injuries are classified into stages, with Stage 1 being the least severe and Stage 4 being the most severe. Prevention includes regular repositioning, using specialized mattresses, and maintaining skin hygiene. Proper care is essential to promote healing and prevent complications.
