Presentism
Presentism is a philosophical concept that asserts only the present moment is real, while the past and future are not. This view suggests that our experiences and perceptions are limited to what we can observe and interact with in the current moment. Presentism contrasts with other theories of time, such as Eternalism, which posits that past, present, and future events are equally real.
In the context of history, presentism can also refer to interpreting historical events through the lens of contemporary values and beliefs. This approach can lead to anachronisms, where past actions are judged by modern standards, potentially distorting our understanding of historical figures and events, such as Abraham Lincoln or World War II.
