Pope Innocent XI
Pope Innocent XI, born Benedetto Odescalchi in 1611, served as the head of the Roman Catholic Church from 1676 until his death in 1689. He is known for his efforts to reform the Church and combat corruption, as well as for his opposition to the influence of the French monarchy in ecclesiastical matters.
During his papacy, Innocent XI also focused on promoting peace in Europe, particularly during the War of the League of Augsburg. He is remembered for his strong stance against the Jansenism movement and for supporting the rights of the Church against secular powers.
