Phormium
Phormium is a genus of flowering plants native to New Zealand, commonly known as flax. These plants are characterized by their long, sword-like leaves that can grow up to several feet in length. Phormium species are often used in gardens for their striking appearance and can thrive in various soil types.
The leaves of Phormium are not only ornamental but also have practical uses. Traditionally, the indigenous Māori people of New Zealand used the fibers from the leaves to make ropes, mats, and clothing. Today, Phormium is appreciated in landscaping and as a source of natural fiber.
