Philistia
Philistia was an ancient region located along the southwestern coast of Canaan, corresponding to parts of modern-day Gaza Strip and Israel. It was inhabited by the Philistines, a group known for their conflicts with the Israelites as described in the Bible. The region was characterized by five major city-states: Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, and Gath.
The Philistines were skilled in metallurgy and trade, which contributed to their economic strength. They are often depicted as adversaries of the Israelites, particularly in stories involving figures like Samson and David. Over time, Philistia became a significant cultural and political entity in the ancient Near East.
