Philip VI of France
Philip VI of France was the first king of the House of Valois, reigning from 1328 to 1350. He became king after the death of Charles IV, the last king of the Capetian dynasty, as he was the closest male relative. His ascension marked the beginning of a new royal line in France.
During his reign, Philip VI faced significant challenges, including the onset of the Hundred Years' War against England. His rule was marked by conflicts over territory and claims to the French throne, which ultimately led to a prolonged struggle between the two nations.
