John II of France
John II of France, also known as John the Good, was a king who ruled from 1350 to 1364. He was born in 1319 and became king after the death of his father, Philip VI. John faced significant challenges during his reign, including the ongoing Hundred Years' War against England.
In 1356, John was captured at the Battle of Poitiers, leading to a difficult period for France. He was held for ransom, which strained the kingdom's finances. After his release, John worked to restore stability but ultimately died in 1364, leaving a mixed legacy of both valor and misfortune.
