Pernambucan Insurrection
The Pernambucan Insurrection was a rebellion that took place in the province of Pernambuco, Brazil, from 1817 to 1818. It was driven by a desire for independence from Portuguese colonial rule and was influenced by Enlightenment ideas. The insurrection was led by local elites and aimed to establish a republic.
The uprising was ultimately suppressed by Portuguese forces, resulting in significant casualties and the execution of key leaders. Despite its failure, the Pernambucan Insurrection is remembered as an important event in Brazil's struggle for independence, which would eventually be achieved in 1822.
