Brazilian Independence refers to the process by which Brazil gained its freedom from Portugal in the early 19th century. The movement began in 1822, fueled by growing discontent among Brazilians who wanted more autonomy. The situation escalated when Dom Pedro I, the son of the Portuguese king, declared Brazil's independence on September 7, 1822, famously shouting, "IndependĂȘncia ou Morte!"
This declaration marked the end of colonial rule and the beginning of a new era for Brazil. Following independence, Dom Pedro I became the first emperor of the newly established Empire of Brazil, leading the country through a period of significant change and development.
