Peranakan culture
Peranakan culture, also known as Straits Chinese culture, emerged from the intermarriage between Chinese immigrants and local Malays in the 15th to 17th centuries. This unique blend of traditions is most prominently found in Malaysia and Singapore, where the descendants are referred to as Baba (men) and Nyonya (women).
The culture is characterized by its distinctive cuisine, which combines Chinese and Malay flavors, as well as vibrant clothing and intricate handicrafts. Peranakan communities are known for their rich customs, including elaborate wedding ceremonies and traditional arts, reflecting their dual heritage and cultural identity.
