Partial Seizures
Partial seizures, also known as focal seizures, occur when abnormal electrical activity begins in a specific area of the brain. These seizures can affect a small part of the brain and may cause unusual sensations, movements, or emotions. Symptoms can vary widely depending on the area affected, and they may or may not involve loss of consciousness.
There are two main types of partial seizures: simple partial seizures and complex partial seizures. In simple partial seizures, the person remains aware and can often recall the event afterward. In complex partial seizures, awareness is impaired, and the person may not remember the seizure. Treatment options include medications and, in some cases, surgery.
