Focal Seizures
Focal seizures are a type of seizure that begins in a specific area of the brain. They can affect a person’s awareness, movement, or sensations, depending on which part of the brain is involved. Symptoms may include twitching, unusual smells or tastes, or feelings of déjà vu.
These seizures are classified into two main types: focal aware seizures, where the person remains conscious, and focal impaired awareness seizures, where consciousness is altered. Treatment options often include medications, lifestyle changes, or in some cases, surgery to control or reduce the frequency of seizures.
