Abdelbaset al-Megrahi
Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was a Libyan intelligence officer who became widely known for his involvement in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. This tragic event resulted in the deaths of 270 people, making it one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in history. In 2001, al-Megrahi was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
In 2009, he was released from prison on compassionate grounds due to terminal cancer, which sparked significant controversy. His release raised questions about justice and the impact of international relations, particularly between Libya and Western countries. Al-Megrahi passed away in 2012.
