Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), often called "brittle bone disease," is a genetic disorder that affects the body's ability to produce strong bones. People with OI have bones that break easily, sometimes with little or no apparent cause. This condition is caused by a defect in the collagen production, which is a protein that helps strengthen bones and connective tissues.
There are several types of OI, ranging from mild to severe. Symptoms can include frequent fractures, blue sclera (the white part of the eye), and dental issues. While there is no cure for OI, treatments like physical therapy and medications can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
