Orval Faubus
Orval Faubus was an American politician who served as the Governor of Arkansas from 1955 to 1967. He is best known for his role in the Little Rock Nine crisis in 1957, when he opposed the desegregation of public schools following the Brown v. Board of Education decision. Faubus used the National Guard to prevent nine African American students from entering Little Rock Central High School, which led to a significant national controversy.
Faubus's actions were widely criticized and led to federal intervention, including the deployment of U.S. Army troops to ensure the students' safety. His stance on segregation reflected the broader tensions of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. After leaving office, Faubus remained a controversial figure in Arkansas politics.
