Optokinetic Reflex
The Optokinetic Reflex (OKR) is a natural eye movement that helps stabilize vision when a person is moving. It occurs when the eyes track moving objects in the environment, allowing the brain to maintain a clear view. This reflex is essential for activities like reading or watching moving scenes, as it helps prevent blurriness.
When an object moves across the visual field, the eyes will follow it smoothly until it leaves the field of vision, then quickly snap back to the starting position. This process involves the coordination of the eyes and the brain, particularly the visual cortex and brainstem, ensuring that we can perceive motion accurately.
