Operation Freshman
Operation Freshman was a World War II mission conducted by the British to sabotage the German heavy water production facility at Vemork, Norway. Launched in November 1942, the operation aimed to prevent the Nazis from developing nuclear weapons by disrupting their access to this critical resource.
The mission involved a team of Royal Engineers who were to parachute into Norway and destroy the facility. However, the operation faced numerous challenges, including harsh weather conditions and enemy detection. Ultimately, the mission failed, leading to significant losses for the Allied forces and highlighting the difficulties of covert operations in hostile territories.
