Vemork
Vemork is a hydroelectric power plant located in Norway, specifically in the Telemark region. It was built in the early 20th century and is notable for being one of the first large-scale power plants to generate electricity from water. The plant harnesses the energy of the Numedalslågen river, contributing significantly to the local economy and energy supply.
During World War II, Vemork gained historical importance due to its production of heavy water, which was crucial for Nazi Germany's nuclear weapons program. The facility was targeted in several Allied operations, including the famous Norwegian heavy water sabotage, aimed at preventing the Nazis from developing atomic bombs.
