Omohyoid Muscle
The Omohyoid muscle is a thin, strap-like muscle located in the neck. It is part of the infrahyoid muscles, which help stabilize the position of the hyoid bone and assist in movements of the larynx and pharynx. The muscle has two bellies, the superior and inferior, connected by an intermediate tendon.
The Omohyoid originates from the upper border of the scapula and inserts into the lower border of the hyoid bone. It plays a role in swallowing and speaking by helping to lower the hyoid bone and stabilize the neck during these activities.
