Ok Tedi Mine
The Ok Tedi Mine is a large copper and gold mining operation located in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea. It is situated near the headwaters of the Ok Tedi River and has been in operation since 1984. The mine is primarily an open-pit operation and is one of the largest copper producers in the world.
The mine is operated by Ok Tedi Mining Limited, which is a subsidiary of the PNG Sustainable Development Program. The mining activities have raised environmental concerns, particularly regarding the impact on the surrounding ecosystems and local communities. Efforts have been made to mitigate these effects and promote sustainable practices in the region.
