Oblasts of Russia
The Oblasts of Russia are administrative regions that serve as the primary subdivisions of the country. There are 85 federal subjects in Russia, including oblasts, republics, krais, autonomous okrugs, federal cities, and an autonomous oblast. Each oblast is governed by its own local administration and has a degree of autonomy, although they are ultimately under the jurisdiction of the federal government.
Oblasts vary in size, population, and economic activity. Some of the most populous oblasts include Moscow Oblast and Sverdlovsk Oblast, while others, like Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, are more sparsely populated. The diverse geography and resources of these regions contribute to the overall economic landscape of Russia.
