Northern white rhinoceros
The Northern white rhinoceros is a subspecies of the white rhinoceros, native to East and Central Africa. Once abundant, its population has drastically declined due to poaching and habitat loss. As of now, only two known individuals remain, both females, making them functionally extinct.
These rhinos are characterized by their large size, with males weighing up to 2,300 kilograms. They have a broad mouth adapted for grazing on grasses. Conservation efforts are ongoing, focusing on advanced reproductive technologies to try to save the Northern white rhinoceros from complete extinction.
