Northeast Thailand
Northeast Thailand, also known as Isan, is a region known for its rich culture and traditions. It is characterized by its rural landscapes, rice paddies, and the Mekong River, which forms part of its northern border with Laos. The area is home to various ethnic groups and is famous for its unique cuisine, including dishes like som tam (spicy papaya salad) and larb (meat salad).
The economy of Northeast Thailand is primarily based on agriculture, with rice being the main crop. The region also hosts several important festivals, such as the Buddhist Boon Bang Fai (Rocket Festival), which celebrates the start of the rainy season. Despite facing challenges like poverty, Isan is known for its vibrant music and dance, particularly mor lam, a traditional form of folk music.
