New Zealand fur seals
The New Zealand fur seal, also known as the Australian fur seal, is a marine mammal native to the coasts of New Zealand and surrounding regions. These seals are characterized by their external ear flaps and thick fur, which helps them stay warm in cold waters. Adult males can weigh up to 200 kilograms, while females are smaller, averaging around 50 kilograms.
New Zealand fur seals primarily feed on fish and squid, using their agility to catch prey underwater. They are often seen basking on rocky shores or beaches, where they gather in large groups. Conservation efforts have helped their populations recover after historical declines due to hunting and habitat loss.
