New Jersey Colony
The New Jersey Colony was established in the 17th century, originally part of the Dutch territory known as New Netherland. In 1664, the English seized control and divided the land into two parts, East and West Jersey. The colony became known for its diverse population and religious tolerance, attracting settlers from various backgrounds.
In 1702, East and West Jersey were united into a single royal colony. The economy thrived on agriculture, trade, and ironworks. New Jersey played a significant role during the American Revolution, serving as a battleground and a strategic location for both British and American forces.
