Neutropenia
Neutropenia is a medical condition characterized by a low level of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell essential for fighting infections. Neutrophils help the body respond to bacteria and fungi, so having fewer of them can increase the risk of infections. Neutropenia can be caused by various factors, including certain medications, autoimmune disorders, or bone marrow problems.
Symptoms of neutropenia may not be obvious, but individuals may experience frequent infections, fever, or other signs of illness. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests to measure white blood cell counts. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include medications or lifestyle changes to reduce infection risk.
