Nepalese Flora and Fauna
Nepal is home to a diverse range of flora, thanks to its varied climate and topography. The country boasts over 6,000 species of flowering plants, including iconic species like the rhododendron, which is also the national flower. Forests cover about 40% of Nepal, featuring types such as tropical, subtropical, and temperate forests, each supporting unique plant communities.
The fauna of Nepal is equally rich, with around 208 species of mammals and over 867 species of birds. Notable wildlife includes the endangered Bengal tiger, the one-horned rhinoceros, and the elusive snow leopard. The diverse ecosystems, from the lowland Terai to the high Himalayas, provide habitats for these animals, making Nepal a vital area for biodiversity.
