Nehanda Nyakasikana
Nehanda Nyakasikana was a prominent spiritual leader and revolutionary figure in Zimbabwe during the early 20th century. She played a crucial role in the resistance against British colonial rule, particularly during the Second Chimurenga or the Second War of Independence in the 1890s. Nehanda was revered for her prophetic abilities and was considered a symbol of national identity and unity among the Shona people.
Captured by colonial forces, Nehanda was tried and executed in 1898, becoming a martyr for the anti-colonial struggle. Her legacy continues to inspire movements for freedom and justice in Zimbabwe and beyond. Today, she is celebrated as a national heroine and a symbol of resilience against oppression.
