National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons
The National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons, known as CONADEP, was established in Argentina in 1983. Its primary purpose was to investigate the forced disappearances that occurred during the Dirty War, a period of state terrorism from 1976 to 1983. The commission aimed to document the human rights violations committed by the military government and provide a record of the victims.
CONADEP conducted extensive interviews and gathered testimonies from families of the disappeared. In 1984, it published a report titled "Nunca Más" ("Never Again"), which detailed the findings and called for accountability. This report became a crucial document in the fight for human rights in Argentina.
