Nahr al-Bared
Nahr al-Bared is a Palestinian refugee camp located in northern Lebanon, near the city of Tripoli. Established in 1949, it was created to accommodate Palestinians displaced during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The camp has faced numerous challenges, including overcrowding and limited resources, impacting the living conditions of its residents.
In 2007, Nahr al-Bared gained international attention due to a conflict between the Lebanese Army and the militant group Fatah al-Islam. The fighting resulted in significant destruction within the camp and led to the displacement of thousands of residents. Reconstruction efforts have since been ongoing to restore the camp and improve living conditions.
