NGC 6284
NGC 6284 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Ophiuchus. It is approximately 20,000 light-years away from Earth and contains hundreds of thousands of stars, tightly packed together due to their mutual gravitational attraction. This cluster is estimated to be around 13 billion years old, making it one of the older star clusters in our galaxy.
Discovered by William Herschel in 1784, NGC 6284 is notable for its relatively high metallicity compared to other globular clusters. It has a distinct yellowish hue, which is primarily due to the presence of older stars. Observations of NGC 6284 contribute to our understanding of stellar evolution and the formation of the Milky Way galaxy.
