NGC 1396
NGC 1396 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Eridanus. It is approximately 60 million light-years away from Earth and is part of a group of galaxies known as the Eridanus Group. NGC 1396 has a diameter of about 50,000 light-years and is characterized by its distinct spiral arms and a bright central bar structure.
Discovered by the astronomer John Herschel in 1834, NGC 1396 is cataloged in the New General Catalogue (NGC), which is a collection of astronomical objects. The galaxy is of interest to astronomers studying galaxy formation and evolution, as well as the dynamics of spiral galaxies.
