Mullidae Species
Mullidae species, commonly known as goatfish, are a family of fish found in warm waters around the world. They are easily recognizable by their elongated bodies, forked tails, and distinctive barbels on their chins, which they use to search for food on the ocean floor. Goatfish typically inhabit coral reefs and sandy areas, feeding on small invertebrates and crustaceans.
There are over 70 species of goatfish, with notable examples including the striped goatfish and red mullet. These fish are important in both commercial and recreational fishing, often sought after for their mild flavor and firm texture. Goatfish also play a role in the marine ecosystem by helping to maintain the balance of benthic communities.
