Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue
Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue (MALT) is a component of the immune system found in mucosal surfaces, such as the gut, respiratory tract, and other areas. It plays a crucial role in protecting the body from pathogens that enter through these surfaces. MALT includes structures like Peyer’s patches in the intestines and tonsils in the throat.
MALT is made up of lymphoid tissues that contain immune cells, such as B cells and T cells, which help identify and respond to foreign invaders. By being strategically located at entry points, MALT helps initiate immune responses and maintain the body’s overall health.
