Gut-Associated Lymphoid Tissue
Gut-Associated Lymphoid Tissue (GALT) is a crucial part of the immune system located in the gastrointestinal tract. It includes structures like Peyer’s patches, mesenteric lymph nodes, and isolated lymphoid follicles. GALT helps protect the body from pathogens that enter through food and drink, playing a vital role in maintaining gut health.
GALT contains various immune cells, such as B cells and T cells, which work together to identify and respond to harmful microorganisms. This tissue also helps in the development of immune tolerance, allowing the body to distinguish between harmful invaders and beneficial substances, such as food.
