Mourides
The Mourides are a Sufi Muslim community primarily based in Senegal. Founded in the late 19th century by Amadou Bamba, the Mouride movement emphasizes spiritual devotion, hard work, and community service. Followers, known as Mourides, often engage in agricultural and entrepreneurial activities, reflecting their commitment to self-sufficiency and economic development.
Central to Mouride beliefs is the veneration of Amadou Bamba, who is regarded as a saint and a spiritual leader. The community celebrates various religious events, with the most significant being the Magal, an annual pilgrimage that commemorates Bamba's exile and his teachings on peace and perseverance.
