Moro people
The Moro people are a group of Muslim communities in the southern Philippines, primarily located in the regions of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan. They have a rich cultural heritage, with distinct languages, traditions, and practices that set them apart from the predominantly Christian population in the country. The Moro people are known for their vibrant arts, including traditional music, dance, and crafts.
Historically, the Moro people have faced challenges related to political autonomy and land rights. They have engaged in various movements for self-determination, leading to the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in 2019. This region aims to provide greater governance and cultural recognition for the Moro communities.
