Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim
Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim was an influential Iraqi Shia leader and cleric, born in 1939. He was a prominent figure in the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI) and played a significant role in opposing the regime of Saddam Hussein. After years of exile, he returned to Iraq in 2003 following the U.S. invasion.
Al-Hakim was known for advocating for the rights of Shia Muslims in Iraq and promoting a democratic political system. His leadership was marked by efforts to unite various factions within the Shia community. Tragically, he was assassinated in 2003, shortly after his return, which underscored the ongoing violence in post-war Iraq.
