Miwok People
The Miwok People are a Native American group originally from northern California. They traditionally lived in the regions around the Sierra Nevada and the San Francisco Bay Area. The Miwok were known for their diverse lifestyles, which included hunting, fishing, and gathering wild plants. They spoke several dialects of the Miwok language, which is part of the larger Penutian language family.
Historically, the Miwok people lived in small, semi-nomadic groups, often moving with the seasons to access food resources. They built homes called bark houses and created intricate baskets for storage and cooking. Today, many Miwok descendants continue to celebrate their culture and heritage through various events and organizations.
