Mitsuhide Akechi
Mitsuhide Akechi was a prominent Japanese samurai and general during the late 16th century. He is best known for his role in the Sengoku period, a time of intense military conflict and political intrigue in Japan. Akechi served under Oda Nobunaga, one of the most powerful warlords of the era, and played a significant role in Nobunaga's campaigns to unify Japan.
In 1582, Akechi famously betrayed Nobunaga, leading to his assassination at Honnō-ji. This act of treachery is often referred to as the Honnō-ji Incident. Following Nobunaga's death, Akechi briefly seized power but was soon defeated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, another key figure in Japan's unification. Akechi's legacy remains complex, marked by both his military prowess and his infamous betrayal.
