Toyotomi Hideyoshi was a prominent Japanese daimyo (feudal lord) who played a key role in unifying Japan during the late 16th century. Born in 1537, he rose from humble beginnings as a peasant to become one of the most powerful figures in Japanese history. Hideyoshi is best known for his military campaigns, which helped consolidate power and bring stability to the country after years of civil war.
In addition to his military achievements, Hideyoshi implemented significant social and economic reforms. He introduced land surveys and tax systems that improved agricultural productivity. His efforts laid the groundwork for the eventual establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate, which would govern Japan for over 250 years.
