Mimosa pudica
Mimosa pudica, commonly known as the sensitive plant, is a tropical perennial plant native to Central and South America. It is well-known for its unique ability to respond to touch; when its leaves are disturbed, they fold inward and droop, a phenomenon called thigmonasty. This reaction is thought to be a defense mechanism against herbivores.
The plant features small, pink, fluffy flowers and can grow up to 1 meter tall. Mimosa pudica thrives in warm, humid environments and is often found in disturbed areas, such as roadsides and gardens. It is also used in traditional medicine and as an ornamental plant.
