Sensitive Plant
The Sensitive Plant, scientifically known as *Mimosa pudica*, is a small, flowering plant native to Central and South America. It is famous for its unique ability to respond to touch; when its leaves are disturbed, they fold up quickly as a defense mechanism against herbivores. This rapid movement is due to changes in turgor pressure within the leaf cells.
In addition to its touch sensitivity, the Sensitive Plant also exhibits a phenomenon called nyctinasty, where its leaves close at night and reopen in the morning. This behavior helps the plant conserve water and protect itself from nighttime herbivores. The Sensitive Plant is often grown as an ornamental plant in gardens and is also studied for its fascinating biological responses.
