Methyl Bromide
Methyl bromide is a colorless, odorless gas used primarily as a pesticide and fumigant in agriculture. It effectively controls pests in soil and stored products, making it valuable for crops like strawberries and potatoes. However, its use has been restricted in many countries due to its harmful effects on the ozone layer.
Despite its effectiveness, methyl bromide poses health risks to humans and animals, including respiratory issues and neurological effects. As a result, alternatives are being developed, and its use is being phased out under the Montreal Protocol, an international treaty aimed at protecting the ozone layer.
