Memnon is a figure from Greek mythology, known as a king of Ethiopia and a son of the goddess Eos, the dawn. He is celebrated for his bravery and strength, particularly in the Trojan War, where he fought on the side of the Trojans against the Greeks. His most famous encounter was with the Greek hero Achilles, who ultimately killed him in battle.
In addition to his mythological significance, Memnon is also associated with the Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues located in Luxor, Egypt. These statues represent him and were built to honor his memory. They are famous for their impressive size and the mysterious sounds they made at dawn, which were thought to be the voice of Memnon greeting his mother, Eos.
