Medial Ankle Ligament
The medial ankle ligament, also known as the deltoid ligament, is a strong band of tissue located on the inner side of the ankle. It connects the tibia (the larger bone of the lower leg) to the bones of the foot, providing stability and support during movement. This ligament helps prevent excessive outward rolling of the ankle, which can lead to injuries.
Injuries to the medial ankle ligament are less common than those to the lateral ligaments but can occur due to trauma or overuse. Symptoms may include pain, swelling, and difficulty bearing weight on the affected foot. Proper diagnosis and treatment are essential for recovery and to restore ankle function.
