Mechanical Pulping
Mechanical pulping is a process used to produce paper by grinding wood chips into a pulp. This method relies on mechanical forces rather than chemicals, which helps retain the natural fibers and brightness of the wood. The resulting pulp is typically used for products like newsprint and other low-cost paper types.
In mechanical pulping, wood is often processed using machines like refiners and grinders. These machines break down the wood fibers while minimizing the loss of cellulose, the main component of paper. Although this method is energy-intensive, it is efficient for producing large quantities of pulp quickly.
