Mammals of Japan
Japan is home to a diverse range of mammals, including both native and introduced species. Some notable native mammals include the Japanese macaque, known for its unique behavior of bathing in hot springs, and the Japanese black bear, which inhabits mountainous regions. Other mammals, such as the Japanese dormouse and sika deer, are also found across the islands.
In addition to native species, Japan has several introduced mammals, such as the feral cat and European rabbit. These species can impact local ecosystems and compete with native wildlife. Conservation efforts are in place to protect Japan's unique mammalian biodiversity.
