Maleku People
The Maleku People are an indigenous group located in the northern region of Costa Rica. They primarily inhabit the Maleku Indigenous Reserve, which is situated near the Arenal Volcano. Traditionally, the Maleku have relied on agriculture, hunting, and fishing for their sustenance, cultivating crops like corn and beans.
The Maleku culture is rich in traditions, including unique crafts and rituals. They speak the Maleku language, which is part of the Chibchan language family. Efforts are ongoing to preserve their language and cultural practices, as the community faces challenges from modernization and environmental changes.
