Maitraka dynasty
The Maitraka dynasty was an ancient Indian dynasty that ruled parts of present-day Gujarat from the 5th to the 8th centuries CE. They were known for their contributions to art, architecture, and culture, particularly in the region of Vallabhi, which served as their capital. The Maitrakas played a significant role in the spread of Buddhism and Hinduism during their reign.
The dynasty is notable for its patronage of scholars and the establishment of educational institutions. The Maitrakas maintained a complex relationship with neighboring powers, including the Gupta Empire and later the Rashtrakutas. Their decline began in the 8th century, leading to the eventual rise of new regional powers.
